Most amusing - this is the "advanced" side :D

Not so sure. After I did it I thought folks might take offense about what's beginner and what's not. Actually, it was more of an admonition to myself.
The whole playing card thing is interesting. I realize I'm on thin ice here -- being a newbie -- but I see altered playing cards that really have nothing to do with being on a playing card. There's no verbal or visual pun or connection to cards or card games. They could just as well be on any 2.25 3.5 inch card stock. Am I missing something?

That's right, I myself have used a lot of playing cards simply as backgrounds and not dealt with the playing-cardness of them.

It has to do with what is called an "Artist's Trading Card" - ATC - which is playing card dimensions but can simply be cardboard. People use playing cards as a handy way to make them. A few years ago a lot of us who do collage were swapping them back and forth around the globe - the "trading" part. It's about small, swappable pieces rather than the playing card qua playing card.

OK. Now I'm getting it. Interesting and somewhat liberating. Thanks for your patience. Sorry if I was a judgemental twit.

No problem! Kat Diestel is who I learned about ATCs from. She is not doing them now but this is her gallery of them [link]

Liz Cohn has the playing card quality appear in quite a few pieces, here's a good one: [link]

Seth Fitts has done them both ways - ACEO is another name for them [link]
